Coilovers for Acura TSX and TL

Acura TL and TSX coilovers are generation-specific: 2004-2008 TL (UA6/UA7) and 2009-2014 TL (UA8/UA9, including SH-AWD) take different kits, and the same split applies to the 2004-2008 and 2009-2014 TSX. Godspeed, Megan Racing, and BC Racing each catalog dedicated kits for these chassis, with front spring rates in the 10 kg/mm range and 16 to 30 levels of damping adjustment.

The specs below are compiled from manufacturer and retailer catalog pages listed in sources; we have not installed or tested these kits ourselves.

TL and TSX generations covered

The first-generation TSX (CL9) ran 2004-2008, and the TL split into two chassis over the same keyword range buyers search for: UA6/UA7 for 2004-2008 and UA8/UA9 for 2009-2014, the latter including the SH-AWD model. Both the TL and TSX of this era share platform roots with the Honda Accord, which is why several coilover brands sell the TSX and Accord kit as the same part with different brackets.

Because the chassis codes differ, a kit listed for a 2006 TL will not be the same part as one listed for a 2004 TSX, even though both cars came out of the same era. Match the kit to your exact model year and chassis before ordering.

Fitment notes by kit

On the 2004-2008 TL (UA6/UA7), Godspeed's MonoSS kit (MSS0186) lists 10 kg/mm front and 5 kg/mm rear springs with 16 levels of damper adjustment, and includes front camber plates on pillow ball mounts to add adjustment range after lowering.

On the 2009-2014 TL, including SH-AWD, BC Racing's BR Series (A-75-BR) is cataloged with 30-way simultaneous compression/rebound adjustment, covering both FWD and SH-AWD drivetrains under the same part number per the retailer's listing.

For the 2004-2008 TSX (CL9), Godspeed's MonoSS (MSS0220) uses a slightly firmer 10 kg/mm front and 6 kg/mm rear spring rate with the same 16-way damping. Megan Racing's EZ II kit for the same TSX generation (MR-CDK-HA03-EZII) is also available, but the retailer listing notes the rear lower eye bolts need to be ground down from 2.00 inch to 1.75 inch width to clear the rear control arm, so budget extra install time for that kit specifically.

Alignment, camber, and tire clearance

Any coilover kit that lowers a TL or TSX pulls in negative camber at the front, which is why kits like the Godspeed MonoSS ship with camber plates rather than fixed top mounts. Plan on a full wheel alignment after install and after any ride height change, not just a one-time setting.

None of the catalog pages we checked publish an exact drop-in-inches figure for these kits; ride height on all four kits listed here is set by threaded collars, so the actual drop depends on where you set the spring perch relative to stock. See how to adjust coilovers for the process of setting and corner-balancing ride height once the kit is installed.

Choosing between these kits

If you want more damper range for a street/track split, the BC Racing BR's 30-way adjustment is the widest range among the kits in the fitment table, though it's also the highest listed price. The Godspeed MonoSS kits are the cheapest of the four at the time of writing and cover both the TL and TSX first generation with nearly identical spring rates.

FAQ

Do TL coilovers fit a TSX, or the other way around?
No. Even though the TL and TSX share an era and some underpinnings, they're separate chassis, so kits are cataloged separately. Godspeed, for example, lists part MSS0186 for the 2004-2008 TL and a different part, MSS0220, for the 2004-2008 TSX.
Does the SH-AWD TL need a different coilover kit than the FWD TL?
Not according to BC Racing's listing for the 2009-2014 TL: the BR Series kit (A-75-BR) is sold as one part number covering both FWD and SH-AWD versions, with 30-way compression/rebound adjustment.
What's the difference between the 2004-2008 and 2009-2014 TL for coilovers?
They're different chassis codes, UA6/UA7 for 2004-2008 and UA8/UA9 for 2009-2014, so a kit built for one generation is not sold as fitting the other. Always match the kit listing to your exact model year.
Will a TSX coilover kit bolt straight in?
Mostly, but check the specific kit's install notes. Megan Racing's EZ II listing for the 2004-2008 TSX notes the rear lower eye bolts need to be ground down from 2.00 inch to 1.75 inch width to clear the rear control arm.
How adjustable are these dampers?
Among the kits we checked, adjustability runs from 16-way on the Godspeed MonoSS (both the TL and TSX 2004-2008 kits) up to 30-way compression/rebound on the BC Racing BR for the 2009-2014 TL.
Do these kits include camber plates?
The Godspeed MonoSS kit for the 2004-2008 TL is listed with front camber plates on pillow ball mounts. Confirm camber plate inclusion on other kits directly with the retailer before ordering, since not every listing we checked specified this.
