Chevy S10 Lowering Kit Fitment Guide

A Chevy S10 lowering kit drops the front 2 to 5 inches and the rear 2 to 5 inches, depending on cab style, drivetrain, and engine. 2WD trucks use dropped spindles up front; 4WD trucks use shorter torsion keys. Most kits pair that with rear blocks, and the deepest drops need aftermarket shocks.

The fitment and drop figures below come from Belltech's own retailer fitment pages, broken out by generation, cab, and drivetrain.

How Much an S10 Kit Lowers It

Chevy S10 lowering kits are sold by exact drop and by the truck's drivetrain, not as one universal part. 2WD standard-cab and extended-cab trucks typically start with a 2 inch front / 3 inch rear kit, with 4 inch or 5 inch front / 5 inch rear leaf-spring kits available for a more aggressive stance on 4-cylinder 2WD trucks. 4WD S10 pickups and Blazers use a different front end, with drop handled by shorter torsion keys instead of spindles, in a 1 inch to 3 inch front / 3 inch rear range.

See the Belltech fitment table below for the exact part numbers and model-year cutoffs.

2WD Spindles vs 4WD Torsion Keys

The S10's front suspension type decides which kit fits. 2WD trucks use a coil-spring, double A-arm front end, so lowering kits replace the factory spindle with a shorter dropped spindle. 4WD trucks run torsion bars instead, so front drop comes from a shorter torsion key rather than a spindle swap. A 2WD kit will not bolt onto a 4WD S10 and vice versa, which is why retailers list them as separate part numbers.

Rear drop is more consistent across drivetrains: both 2WD and 4WD kits lower the rear axle with blocks between the axle and leaf springs, or with shorter leaf springs on the deeper 4/5 kits.

Blazer, Standard Cab, and Extended Cab Differences

Fitment splits along two more lines beyond drivetrain. The S10 Blazer shares the pickup's front end but drops out of most Belltech kit listings after the 1994-1997 model years as the SUV was phased out, so the later 2"/3" kit listing is pickup-only for 1998-2004. Standard-cab and extended-cab trucks can need different rear block heights because of different leaf-spring setups, so match the kit to cab style, not just model year.

Engine matters on the deeper kits too: the 4"/5" leaf-spring kit above is sold as a 4-cylinder-only part, since V6 trucks carry different leaf springs.

Alignment, Camber, and Tire Clearance

Any kit that changes spindle height or torsion key angle also changes camber and bump steer, so a full alignment is standard practice after installing an S10 lowering kit, not optional. On the deeper 4 inch and 5 inch kits, check tire-to-fender clearance at full steering lock and full suspension travel, especially on extended-cab trucks running larger wheels. Belltech sells Nitro Drop and Street Performance shocks as an add-on on every S10 kit listed here, worth budgeting for on drops past 3 inches to keep the ride controlled.

Picking the Right Drop

A 2 inch front / 3 inch rear kit is the common starting point: enough drop to fill the wheel wells without the ride and clearance tradeoffs of the deeper options. The 4/5 kit and the 4WD 1-3/3 kit suit owners chasing a lower, more aggressive stance who are prepared to re-check alignment and clearance more carefully. Pair any kit with sway bar links and bushings rated for the new ride height if the truck sees regular cornering, and budget for an alignment the same day as installation.

What a 2.5" drop looks like

The 2 inch front / 3 inch rear kit is the most widely fitted starting point for 2WD S10 pickups and earlier Blazers, giving a flush stance without the clearance and ride tradeoffs of the deeper 4/5 and torsion-key kits.

FAQ

How much does a 2 inch/3 inch S10 lowering kit actually drop the truck?

A 2"/3" kit drops the front about 2 inches using a shorter spindle and the rear about 3 inches using lowering blocks between the axle and leaf springs, per Belltech's fitment listing for 2WD S10 and S10 Blazer trucks.

Does a 4WD S10 use the same lowering kit as a 2WD S10?

No. 2WD S10s use a coil-spring front end and drop with a shorter spindle, while 4WD S10s run torsion bars and drop with a shorter torsion key, so the front kits are different part numbers even for the same model year.

Will the S10 Blazer fit the same lowering kit as the S10 pickup?

Only in the earlier years. Belltech's 2"/3" kit (p/n 614) covers the S10 Blazer through 1997, but the later 1998-2004 listing for that kit is pickup-only, so check the cutoff year before ordering for a Blazer.

Do I need an alignment after installing an S10 lowering kit?

Yes. Changing spindle height or torsion key angle changes camber and bump steer, so plan on a full alignment right after installation, not as an optional step.

What comes in a typical S10 lowering kit?

Most kits bundle a dropped spindle or torsion key for the front with lowering blocks for the rear; the deeper 4"/5" kits add shorter leaf springs instead of blocks alone, and shocks are usually sold as an add-on rather than included by default.

Is there a lowering kit for a 4-cylinder S10 only?

Yes. Belltech's 4"/5" kit (p/n 616/619) is listed specifically for 4-cylinder 2WD S10 and Sonoma trucks; V6 trucks need a different rear leaf-spring part.
