Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra Lowering Kit Fitment Guide
A 4/6 drop kit for a 1999-2006 Silverado or Sierra 1500 lowers the front 4 inches on drop spindles and coils and the rear 6 inches on a flip kit, the deepest combination sold for that generation; McGaughys lists it as part 93016 for 2001-2006 trucks, with separate part numbers by cab style and model year.
Later generations swap the fixed spindle drop for an adjustable 2/4 strut kit. Specs below come from manufacturer and retailer fitment pages, not from installing these kits ourselves.

Drop kits by generation
The 1999-2006 Classic-body Silverado and Sierra use a spindle-and-coil front drop paired with a rear flip kit, the hardware behind the 4/6 and 2/4 kits most people search for on this generation. McGaughys sells the deeper 4/6 version (part 93016 for 2001-2006 regular cab, separate part numbers for extended cab and the 1999-2000 model years), while Belltech sells a milder 2/4 kit (parts 655/660/679) built around the same 2-inch drop spindle with a 4 to 5-inch rear flip depending on cab length.
The 2007-2018 GMT900/K2XX trucks moved to a strut-based front end, so MaxTrac's kit for that span (K331324S) uses an adjustable 0-3 inch front strut instead of a fixed spindle, paired with a 3-4 inch rear flip kit. The 2019-2026 T1XX trucks continue that adjustable-strut layout, but split into two different parts depending on whether the truck has Adaptive Ride Control/MagneRide.
2WD vs 4WD lowering
Unlike some half-ton trucks where 4WD caps the available front drop, the Silverado/Sierra kits checked here apply the same drop to 2WD and 4WD trucks within a generation: Belltech's 2/4 kit for 1999-2006 trucks and MaxTrac's 2/4 kits for 2007-2026 trucks both list identical front and rear drop figures across 2WD and 4WD versions of the same part. Compare that to a Ford F-150 or Ram 1500, where 4WD front drop is usually smaller than 2WD.
GMC Sierra 1500 trucks share the same platform as the Silverado generation for generation, and the kits above are sold under matching Chevy and GMC part numbers.
Alignment, camber, and tire clearance
Any spindle or strut-based front drop changes camber, so plan on an alignment with camber correction after install. The 2007-2018 K331324S kit's instructions call for a carrier bearing kit on two-piece driveshaft trucks, and MaxTrac's 2019-2026 Adaptive Ride kit (KS331924MR) adds relocation brackets for the factory ride-height sensors since the suspension computer otherwise reads the lowered height as a fault.
Wheel requirements vary by kit: the McGaughys 93016 4/6 kit calls for 16-inch or larger wheels, the MagneRide-specific MaxTrac kit needs at least 18-inch wheels with no more than 9 inches of width and 4.5 inches of backspacing, and some fender trimming may be needed at full drop. The 2007-2018 and 2019-2025 non-Adaptive-Ride MaxTrac kits are rated to work with factory-size wheels and tires.
MagneRide, Adaptive Ride, and what to check before buying
2019-2026 Silverado and Sierra trucks built with Adaptive Ride Control/MagneRide need MaxTrac's KS331924MR kit rather than the standard K331924S; the MagneRide kit excludes Trail Boss, ZR2, AT4, AT4-X, and mono-leaf rear suspension trucks entirely. Confirm your option package before ordering, since the two kits are not interchangeable.
| Generation | Drivetrain | Kit style | Typical drop |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1999-2006 (Classic) | 2WD | Spindle + coil + flip kit (4/6) | 4 in / 6 in |
| 1999-2006 (Classic) | 2WD/4WD | Spindle + flip kit (2/4) | 2 in / 4-5 in |
| 2007-2018 (GMT900/K2XX) | 2WD/4WD | Adjustable strut + flip kit | 0-3 in / 3-4 in |
| 2019-2025 (T1XX, non-Adaptive Ride) | 2WD/4WD | Adjustable strut + flip kit | 0-3 in / 4 in |
| 2019-2026 (T1XX, Adaptive Ride/MagneRide) | 2WD/4WD | Spindle + flip kit + sensor relocation | 2 in / 4 in |
If you'd rather keep ride height adjustable instead of locking in a fixed drop, see our air suspension overview, and for the labor side of either option see our lowering kit installation and cost guide.
What a 4" drop looks like
The 4/6 spindle-and-flip-kit drop is the most requested setup for 1999-2006 Silverado and Sierra trucks; 2007-and-newer trucks most commonly run a 2-in front / 4-in rear adjustable kit instead.
FAQ
What is a 4/6 drop kit for a 99-06 Silverado?
It's a front-and-rear lowering package that drops the front 4 inches using drop spindles and lowering coils, and the rear 6 inches using a flip kit. McGaughys sells it as part 93016 for 2001-2006 regular cab 2WD trucks, with other part numbers for extended cab and 1999-2000 trucks.
Can you get a 2/4 lowering kit for a newer Silverado or Sierra?
Yes. MaxTrac sells a 2/4-style adjustable kit for 2007-2018 trucks (K331324S, 0-3 in front / 3-4 in rear) and another for 2019-2025 non-Adaptive-Ride trucks (K331924S, 0-3 in front / 4 in rear).
Does a MagneRide or Adaptive Ride Silverado need a different lowering kit?
Yes. 2019-2026 trucks with Adaptive Ride Control/MagneRide need MaxTrac's KS331924MR kit, which relocates the factory ride-height sensors and uses a fixed 2-inch front spindle instead of the adjustable strut used on non-Adaptive-Ride trucks. It doesn't fit Trail Boss, ZR2, AT4, AT4-X, or mono-leaf rear suspension trucks.
Is there a difference between 2WD and 4WD lowering kits on the Silverado?
Not in the drop figures for the kits checked here. The Belltech 2/4 kit for 1999-2006 trucks and the MaxTrac 2/4 kits for 2007-2026 trucks list the same front and rear drop for 2WD and 4WD versions of a given part, unlike trucks where 4WD caps the front drop lower than 2WD.
Do GMC Sierra 1500 trucks use the same lowering kits as the Silverado?
Yes. The Silverado and Sierra 1500 share the same chassis generation for generation, and the kits above are sold under matching Chevy and GMC part numbers for each model year range.
Will a Silverado lowering kit need an alignment or bigger wheels?
An alignment with camber correction is standard after any spindle or strut-based drop. Wheel needs vary by kit: the McGaughys 93016 4/6 kit calls for 16-inch or larger wheels, the MagneRide-specific MaxTrac kit needs 18-inch or larger wheels with limited width and backspacing, and the 2007-2018/2019-2025 non-Adaptive-Ride MaxTrac kits are rated for factory-size wheels and tires.
